Disclaimer: I live for stuff like this.
The 23rd James Bond film Skyfall comes out on November 9th. Directed by Sam Mendes and featuring Daniel Craig as agent 007 and Javier Bardem as the bad guy, reviews are already in for this movie and they are overwhelmingly positive. Needless to say, I am pretty excited to see this movie when it finally comes out. Here’s hoping that it will be more like Casino Royale and less like Quantum of Solace.
In order to promote the film, the studio has partnered with Coke Zero for their “Unlock the 007 in You” campaign. In Antwerp, Belgium’s Central Station, a special Coke Zero vending machine urges people to act like 007 in order to win two tickets to see the new film. When you try to purchase a Coke, the machine prompts you with a mission: make it to a certain platform in 70 seconds to win the tickets. Of course, just like any good Bond movie, the path to the required platform is filled with oblivious travelers, sexy women, and other booby-traps. Check out the video below:
I think this is fantastic. I can’t tell you how many times I have hummed the James Bond or Mission: Impossible theme in my head as I pick my way through a crowded place, pretending I was on a secret mission. This brings that to life for the lucky people in the station. I also love how many actors and actresses they had who were trying to prevent people from reaching the platform in time. And if you made it on time? You still have to sing the theme song – probably the most daunting task for most.
I also love how it includes people who are just standing around watching – you can even see them chiming in when it is time to sing the theme song. It is a clever way to spread and increase excitement for this film, and a yet another clever use of a vending machine for Coca-Cola. Unfortunately, I don’t know who did this campaign, but I think it is just brilliant. And even though I haven’t seen this viral stunt in action, I am that much more excited to see the film when it hits theaters in just a few short weeks.
