Ad of the Week #11


Simplicity meets creativity in this outdoor poster for Coke. After Jonathan Mak Long gained notoriety for his beautifully simplistic tribute to Steve Jobs, Ogilvy China commissioned him to make an outdoor poster for Coca-Cola. The result was this minimalistic Cannes Outdoor Grand Prix Lion winner, seen below:

 

What are your thoughts about this outdoor poster? Personally, I love it. Sure, the product’s name isn’t featured anywhere on the ad, but that is the point. Coke is so iconic that they don’t have to put their name on something that is theirs. We just know that it is, just by the distinctive colors and the white swoosh. Also, I love how it evokes the current heartbeat behind Coke these days – sharing happiness. It’s as if two friends are holding on to a Coke, sharing good times together. Simple, yet brilliant.
